This desolate spot is Sandvatnshildar a high mountain pass on the Kjölur route through the highlands of Iceland. The road is only open for around ten weeks in the Icelandic summer and even then only four wheel drive vehicles are allowed to use it.
This panorama was taken with a Nikon 990 digital camera. The thireteen photos were then joined using The Panorama Factory software, with final adjustments made in Photoshop. Keeping the tripod from being blown over in the high wind was an extra challenge.
